Over the holiday break my sweetheart and I enjoyed a night at a high rise hotel on the lakefront (the Marriott Lakeway – I had a Groupon or a Living Social – I can’t remember which…) and we had a beautiful view of the NOLA skyline as the sun came up. A perfect start to the holiday! You can tell it’s New Orleans because of the curve of the Superdome to the right of the skyline.
New Orleans is a great city for “staycations” – we’ve stayed at downtown hotels and pretended to be tourists for a night, stopping at wine bars, dining at a romantic restaurant, then strolling through the French Quarter peering through iron gates into tropical secret courtyards. Sometimes it’s a less than 24 hour getaway and it’s perfect.
Do you ever “staycation” somewhere close to home?

Lovely! Are you gearing up to post during this year’s mardi gras celebration? I hope so, I so enjoyed last years!
It will probably be pre-posted like last time – hard to blog and celebrate Mardi Gras all at once! But I’ll share pics that you haven’t seen yet for sure.
Yeeeeh!!!
My past 16 months have been one big staycation.

And you sure have been having fun and writing tons, Stef!
Beautiful sunrise! I love staycations. We go up to Cleveland from time to time and stay the night when we can get a good deal on a nice hotel. We also take short trips (4 hours or less) which are a little more than a staycation and a good way to explore places not too far from us.
Welcome back, Carla. It’s good to see you again.
I love staycations! Glad you do too, and nice to be back around!
Carla, I recognized the curve the moment the photo came up on my computer…thank you for the beautiful skyline post! Glad you’re back!
It is pretty clear if you know what you’re looking at! Thanks, Jeanne!
Wishing you a wonderful 2013. A beautiful post for a beginning of the year. A sunrise! Love the idea of a staycation!
Thank you, Ruth!
When we staycation we stay in our flat but enjoy all of the sightseeing that London has to offer. I love New Orleans. Trying to convince the better half to have a family meetup there soon. It’s kinda in the middle of all of us.
Yes – that’s another great way to do it. Yes – come to New Orleans! What fun!
Once every two years used to be the rule. See NYC as a tourist. It was a great deal of fun. Things being the way they are now, there are more staycations then I find desirable.
On the other hand it does give me the opportunity to volunteer in communities destroyed by Sandy so you take the good (well no, not the good but being from NOLA you know what I mean) with the bad.
I’d like to come volunteer possibly in early summer, so you may hear from me! Based upon what I know about Katrina, there will still be plenty to do…
