NOLA love #3: Zydeco, zydeco

I think it is actually impossible to listen to Zydeco music and stand still.  I think it’s also impossible to listen to Zydeco music and be unhappy.

Recently I took a visiting couple to Rock ‘n’ Bowl on a Thursday for Zydeco night.  The dance floor was packed. (On a Thursday!  In the summer!)  There were young people, old people, people dressed up a little, people casually dressed, people who clearly dance Zydeco all the time, and people who were just learning.

Gino Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie played and played, and everyone danced and danced.  And bowled.  And played ping pong. And watched the Olympics.

Never heard Zydeco?  Check it out here – a video made by someone of Gino at Rock ‘n’ Bowl a few years ago.

  1. That looks like a lot of fun; I love the music!

  2. My Rock n’ Bowl T finally died after 10 years of faithful service. Reason #32 to head down for a visit.
