They’re called “the flowering tree of 100 days” because they bloom and bloom all summer. They’re super-common, but that’s part of what I love about them – they cover the city with pink, red, lavender and white blooms. Summer in New Orleans is green (especially when it rains daily as it’s been doing) and also pink and magenta. With a bright blue fresh-washed sky.

These look alot like a plant that we call ‘Pride of India’. Wonder if it is the same. Grew up with a big bush of these beauties in my garden, growing up.
Yes – same genus at least! Very similar! Cool!
I love crape myrtles. We don’t have them here at Breezy Acres, although I know my husband wants to get one. You captured it beautifully.
Thanks, Robin! I wish I could take a photo that captured how they color the city, but my eye is selective and edits out the power lines, cars and other distractions and all it sees are the flowers!
I feel as though I can reach through the screen and touch them!
They may be common to you, but are rather unique to some of us. The colors could not be any more vibrant; I love how they pop.
Oh – you would love to see the city just bursting with the blooms on every street! They really are everywhere here in NOLA! Glad you enjoyed!
