A hiking book that’s been recommended to me umpteen times, an inspirational book, a book I had to get because I was tired of hearing so much about it and wanting to see for myself (I had very low expectations and ended up quite entertained – don’t judge me!) and a resource book for coaching (and valuable for me as well I’m sure!) This little stack will keep me busy for a few days at least!
What’s your summer reading indulgence?

I want to read Wild – great selection – Enjoy:)
Thanks! After I’m done with these (ahem) distracting books (I have the whole set – yes, I know) – then I’ll dive in to Wild.
I finished Wild a few weeks ago! It was good, but not great. I think I had higher expectations because of everyone telling me I had to read it… Let me know how 50 Shades of Grey is!
As thru hikers, maybe we have higher expectations – I haven’t even started it and am feeling a little like that – but I want to see her take. And of course, the PCT is a different animal and she did it quite some time ago, when people weren’t as good about reducing pack weight. Will be interesting anyway! I get a little jealous – I’d like to see you and Gangsta on Oprah telling your story, you know?
Apart from my own book: How To Change Your Life One Day At A Time (shameless plug!) I’ll be reading Paulo Coelho’s new book + The Power.
Cool! That is the best way to change your life – one day at a time!
Let me know how “Wild” is. I have had some friends recommend it and I am curious.
I’ll let you know, Shannon. I can tell you about 50 Shades now – wink wink!
I’ve got The Fire Starter Sessions, How Not to Be Afraid of Your Own Life, Gifts of Imperfection, The $100 Startup, and This I Know all slated up to read this summer!
Lovely, Stephanie! I enjoyed Fire Starter Sessions and it’s definitely something you can return to for inspiration. Enjoy!
what a yummy selection! Just finished “Wild” a couple weeks ago and thought about you and the AP all the way through
Brene Brown – she is on my list for sure, but not actually “on” the pile yet! Anne Morrow Lindbergh …. I discovered her 40 years ago and she is a true kindred spirit . I was so touched by by autobiographical books of her diaries and letters, and her poetry, of course, is just beautiful. One of my favorites is “Bring Me A Unicorn” ….
“Everything today
has been heavy and brown,
Bring me a unicorn
to ride about the town”
Enjoy
Love love love that poem, Deborah! I am sad to say that I’ve been hearing about Anne Morrow Lindbergh for so long and not delved in – I’m looking forward to enjoying this classic!
I finally jumped into the first volume of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon series, “The Last Kingdom”. I already have book two waiting on the shelf. Truth be told, I have a character that I have been carrying around for several years, with a story that needs to be told. I need to start writing soon…
I don’t know this series, but if you have a character, by all means begin writing! Best wishes as you let that character and story come to life.
I am still trying to finish Cats Cradle and The Thirteen Clan Mothers!
My sweetheart loves Vonnegut! I like him too!
Have you read Brene Brown’s book yet? It’s on my reading wish list. I heard her speak and she was amazing.
I’ve read one of her other books – I thought it was just me, (but it isn’t) – a great read about shame and learning to become shame-resilient and to make sure you’re not doing things to make others feel ashamed – I really enjoyed it! Sad to say that I am still distracted by the 50 Shades series. I’ll probably wrap that up today or tonight. Then on to the other goodies in the pile!
I also picked up 50 Shades just to see what all of the hype was about – and I’m also embarrassed to admit that I’m reading it. (In fact, you are the first person I’ve told.)
I think the “50 Shades effect” is finally wearing off – I have about 1/3 of book three to go.
I love to read and have jumped back on the reading train this summer and have enjoyed every minute of it. It reminds me of my childhood where you would always find my nose stuck in a book. A friend of mine and I have been trading books each week when we see each other. I always look forward to the next book wondering what he has picked out for me
Happy reading!
Me too – I spent an entire summer holed up in the one air conditioned room in our house one summer – maybe in seventh grade or so? – reading absolutely everything I could get my hands on. It was marvelous.
I have “Wild” on my reading list, but haven’t bought it yet. I was sorting through my to-be-read stack and thinking I need brain candy for the next week or two so it will probably be something ridiculous but entertaining.
Brain candy sounds nice – I love sweets for the brain sometimes!
