What I love about road trips West part II

I love the wide openness – the vastness of the landscape–  almost impossible to capture on film.  I love wildflowers – fields of daisies in mountain meadows.  Icy blue lakes.  Snow in June.  I love going to the National Parks – we visited two new ones: Great Sand Dunes and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  I love appreciating the views and vistas that much more because I’m breathing so hard at 12,000 plus feet!  I love marmots!  (And pikas too, but we didn’t see any pikas this time.)  Please enjoy the slideshow!

  1. You have taken me back to childhood and teenage years. My mother, father and I traveled numerous times westward in a pickup truck pulling a trailer. So many of your photos are mirror images of mine . . .

Absolutely beautiful! What a great trip!

  3. Beautiful! Snow, forests, wild flowers, marmots, mountains and desert sands – who could ask for anything more! I was just thinking the other day that you hadn’t posted in a while – now I know why. Looks like a wonderful trip. Lucky.

Beautiful pictures! We are heading to Colorado in July…now I really can’t wait!

Marmots! I love them too. And pikas. And the mountains still dusted with snow. That is a gorgeous set of images. It’s made me want to take another road trip, something I didn’t think I’d want to do for a LONG while. :)

That’s so funny, Robin! I think that’s why I love photos – they preserve all the best stuff without the hours of driving …. ;)

These images look absolutely AMAZING! I can only imagine what the experience must be like in person. You might get me on the AT yet.
