We were lucky to have the Blind Boys of Alabama come to the free Wednesday Harvest the Music concerts in Lafayette Square this week.
There were once five Blind Boys; now there are three. They are fantastic and have a new record out. Check them out if they come to your town.
It’s late – I’ve been Halloween partying and now climbing into our outdoor tub. I have much to catch up on here, but not tonight. Halloween posts coming soon, along with all the other October fun.
Stay warm if you’re snowbound!

I was lucky enough to see all five, twice–once in a fantastic stand-alone performance, once as part of a great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute concert dedicated to Sam Cooke. Did you ever listen to all five versions of The Wire’s theme song? The Blind Boys’ version might be my favorite–though they’re all great, and usually hearable on YouTube..
Great story! Sadly, we have no cable and so I’ve never heard The Wire’s theme song. But I can imagine that the Blind Boys do a great version. I’ll have to look for it on YouTube . . . I like their work in a Peter Gabriel song called Sky Blue. Check it out online!
So – are they all really blind? Or is it an act?
They are really blind. They’ve been singing together since 1939 when they attended a school for the blind in Talladega, Alabama. So cool!
I’ve seen them perform and they are brilliant. Sadly, they lost two members… Hope you had a great time.
I really enjoyed their singing and their bantering. The lead guy is quite a comedian!
