I’m home from a practically perfect hiking trip. More details tomorrow, but I was so lucky with good weather (no rain!) flowers galore (mountain laurel, rhododendron, azaleas and more) wildlife (even a mama bear and two cubs!) and people. I had great fun meeting some of the thru hikers of 2011. I hiked slowly, took a gazillion photos, listened to the birds, went to bed every night at 9 p.m. (hiker midnight) and woke up at 5:30 a.m. I had plenty of time to soak in the scenery and share goodies with my fellow hikers. I really don’t know what more I could have asked for. Plus I had a great visit with my dear friends in Charlottesville. I have much to do this week with new and exciting challenges coming up this summer, and I’m so glad that I started the season with a rejuvenating trip to the woods!

Welcome back and such beautiful flowers above… !
Thank you!
It sounds like you had a great time…looking forward to hearing more about it and seeing pictures!
As I get back into the swing I’ll add more pics and some stories. Saw lots of motorcyclists enjoying the Blue Ridge Parkway!
What is the name of the flower in the photograph? I love taking my camera for a walk a taking pics of all the wild flowers
This is mountain laurel. The woods were absolutely full of blooms. Truly a lovely time on the trail.
Love the mountain laurel! Missed it’s blooming at our place. It is always a lovely herald of summer! Welcome home!
Thanks, Rach! I think I might have caught one blooming the last time I went out to the creek and tented. There’s always next year.
I’m so glad to hear you had a terrific time! It sounds amazing.
Thank you! It was a nice little vacation. I’m glad that even if I was hiking short days, I now know that it is like riding a bike – I can go back out there any time and take care of myself on the trail. I do love sleeping outside for a week, bugs and all!
