Our two precious cats, in a photo taken by my sweetheart. The one in back is not really smaller - it's just the perspective. But you knew that.
This will be a very short post. It’s just too pretty to be blogging. And I don’t want to have to be on the computer on a Saturday night, either! When a situation like this arrives, the cats are always there to save the day.
These are our two cats. We’ve had them since 1999. We got them as kittens – one of my husband’s students had rescued them from under the Bead Shop on Magazine Street. We went to see them and that was it. We had to take them home. At the time they were all feet and ears, but sweet and adorable too.
We had two cats already who were much older, and we took our time introducing them. They ended up getting along just fine. Thank goodness we never had to evacuate with four cats! By 2005 (Katrina year) we were down to these two.
I can’t believe that they’ll be twelve years old this summer! Time flies.
Edited on May 16 to add that I’m thrilled to be Freshly Pressed today. I find it ironic that a post I rushed to complete so I could spend the day outside and the evening with my sweetheart without any further blogbligations is the one selected to be broadcast to the universe! Not my best writing, certainly! Please consider peeking around a few more posts before you go, or read my Why? page, or just browse around the categories or tags. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your wonderful likes and comments! Happy blogging!
- Carla

They’re cute! And they still seem to be a lot of ears.
I fixed the post to clarify that the last pic was still when they were kittens. Very much all ears. They bring us so much joy. Both of them have climbed into my lap more than once at different times today.
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.
Wow, is this your third time being Freshly Pressed? What’s your secret?
I have no idea, Stef! It’s a mystery to me, for sure! And to pick a post that I threw together in a fit of “I need to be outside”! But I’m honored, nevertheless. Your time is coming. I know it!
They are so cute and loving.
De De Tillman
They really are – one is on my lap right now!
Those two look content and in control…. happy cats!
Eliz
They’re pretty lucky – they live the good life here! Much better than living on the street!
They are lucky kitties to have found you. They are absolutely adorable.
Thanks! They are super- sweet.
They are super cute!
By the way, I have a surprise for you. Come pick it up at my blog any time after 8 a.m. p/t tomorrow.
Wow – thank you, foodtable! You are so sweet! Cheers!
And congratulations on being freshly pressed, too!
Cute cats. Just to warn you, the may turn; reach the age of 20 or more. But since you love them, that is no problem, I´m sure. Have a nice cat-day. I love my cats too, usually.
I know what you mean – they get quirkier all the time, but they are very loving right now. The brown one used to be so squirmy – and now she’s super-snuggly.
I think I know what you mean, even though I have to look up those two “rhiming” words. Maybe you mean that you have to scratch their back constantly and such. Sometimes it is nice when they give me the feeling that they are looking at me as a “cat”-mom. You know, the lions do that all the time. She (my cat) opens the door with her “nose”, I sigh when I see her… (“oh, now, not again, scratching…”) and jumps up in my bed, and sometimes we both fall asleep.
Have a nice day. (Cat-day)
Cute cats! We have one who is 12.5… we got her and her mom in our first year of marriage. Her mom later got out and disappeared. So now we are uneven… one who is 12.5 and one who is 4.5… she keeps us all young!
I’m sorry you lost her mom – I know how hard it is to have a cat disappear and you never find out what happened – but glad you’re enjoying your two sweet cats!
Cute cats!!! I love my cats too. I never has pets as a child and surprisingly both my brother and I now have cats with our partners.
They are wonderful at lifting the mood and bringing and endless, selfless sense of joy into the house.
Yes – they don’t get much housework done, but they always, always lift the mood! Oh, except maybe at 3 a.m. when they want to come in or out!
I got my first dog in 1999. He’s a little slower these days, and that’s hard to see. They really do become such a part of your life.
They do. They are definitely family! I hope your dog has many more healthy happy years ahead of him!
Aw, meow. Cute kitties. Congrats on Freshly Pressed.
Thanks so much! They are sweet ones!
They are absolutely precious!
Thank you!
o.m.g. I love cats. I love your post. Thanks for sharing such cute and adorable creatures.
Aww, thanks! Glad you enjoyed! My blog is not about cats, but they definitely factor in, as they’re so much a part of our lives!
So cute! And I love the title of your blog (BIG Mary Oliver fan)! Congrats on FP
Thanks so much! Please stop by again if you like!
Best friends. : )
Yes – except when he chases his sister around!
Those are two cutey cats!
Thanks! They’ve been known to convert non-cat people into cat people!
Who could live without kitties ? How much have you never learned if you’ve never
known and loved kitties, watched them cat- dance in the full moon, or come creeping out of tall grass sleeping out in the early dawn, or hear them call you from halfway up a tree. We could never live without our kitties and their doggy friends, so we hope you never will either.
That’s beautiful, Colin.
Absolutely ADORABLE photos … I love how small cats sometimes resemble monkeys.
Yes – I see what you mean!
We WUV our kitties and yours are precious!!! How fun they are, and beautifully marked. Interesting how they looked much more alike when they we smaller! Congrats on Freshly Pressed!!!! A fun and fast way to put a smile on today!!! Thanks!
AmberLena
Oh, thank you so much! I think it’s partly the scanned photos making them look more similar when they were little – I’m not sure. The girl has always been a little more ginger-y and almost Abyssinian looking.
Well now, this just put a smile on my face
Yay! I can’t figure out how they decide Freshly Pressed, but I’m glad the cats made you smile! Who doesn’t love a kitten photo, right?
what a sweet story
I love cat stories
Thank you! Your blog is very cool too! Too bad I don’t read Indonesian! I bet Jakarta is gorgeous!
I’ll do a photo entry on Jakarta. My husband took some pics I just need to dig it
Cool! Sounds great!
Awe, sweet kitties.
Thanks!
Love it! We have one farm Kitty, and for both of us not being cat people, we’re quite smitten with her
Great post and photos!
They do have a tendency to win us over, don’t they?
They’re adorable :] you’re lucky to have such good kitty friends.
Thank you! We sure are!
Beautiful little tale. We have had 2 cats for 14 years now. As you say, time flies…
Cuddle them while you can.
Absolutely!
Very cute!
Thanks!
What a beautful post and lovely photo of the two cats on the porch! Having always been a dog owner, we became the owner of two cats late last summer. A stray mamma cat had six kittens on the side of our house. While we wanted to keep them all, we decided to just keep mamma and one kitten (we already have two dogs). I’ve come to really love cats and their personalities. And althought cats may not be as much as “people persons” as dogs, they are quite bonded with us since we’ve had them from a very early age.
Yes – our cats seem to be very into being with us and around us – when my husband is out gardening, they like to be nearby. And of course, when it’s cold, they love to snuggle in bed. We’re lucky to have very cuddly cats.
I bet they love you as much as (or maybe even more than) you do.
I love cats.
They are very loving – whatever is going through their little kitty-cat brains! Glad you enjoyed!
I love the photo of the cats asleep. Isn’t it amazing how cats can just find comfort and security in the most unusual places?
So true! They love to curl up in the leaves in various places in the yard, too. Check out my “barn kitties and Treme” post for another group nap shot!
http://nolawildandprecious.com/2011/03/25/fantabulous-fridays-barn-kitties-and-treme/
They are cute!
Yes – we’re pretty lucky to have them!
I really love love love your cats picture…Aichhhhhhh
Thank you – glad it made you smile!
Adorable!
I’m a total dog person (as evidenced by the name of my blog) but your kitties are cute and I dig the post!
Aww – thanks so much! Our cats have been known to convince non-cat people that cats are pretty cool!
aww so pretty love ur cats nice post and short is the best
You’re right. Short is often good!
Well, great relationship. I am not a cat person but sure do love animals.
Nice post!
Thanks! A couple of minutes with my cats and they might convince you otherwise!
this is very sweet. thank you! <3
well done/congrats/the cats are fab!
Thanks so very much!
Just one of many here to chime in. Thought the pic on WordPress’s homepage was so cute, I just had to check it out… that and the offer of a short story. It’s amazing how different your two kitties ending up looking, they were so similar when they were kittens. I am a cat lover myself, and have recently brought in three stray kitties. That story will soon be posted on my own writing site. Now I’m off to check more of what you have to share with the world. =)
Thanks for stopping by! I think the photos make them look more similar; the girl has always been browner or more gingery than her brother.
OMG kittens!
I just posted a kitten blog last night too… it’s must be kitten day and we’re the only ones who knew it. ;D They really are all ears in that last pic… too cute! They look so close in color in that middle pic, I’m surprised they turned out to be such different shades.
Yes -they do look similar in the pic, but I think it’s a trick of the camera. Will stop by and check out your kittens!
they are very beautiful …. i adore cats too but my kitten is just 3 months old
Kittens are the best!
Such cute kittens. I am turning into a cat person, I think. Funny because I used to be all for dogs and now I want to get a cat. Congrats on FP. I envy those cats in their first picture. They are chilling out so comfortably and I could really use that.
Thanks! Hope you get some quiet time soon.
Carla, congrats!
Would you give me some insight on “i´m part of post a day 2011″, please?
Do you have to write and post everyday? If so, what an achievement!
Thanks! I don’t *have* to post every day, but I’ve accepted the challenge from WordPress to try to do it, and so far, so good! If you click the link on my blog, it will take you to the post a day challenge blog, and I think they explain it there. You can also check the “postaday2011″ tag on WordPress and see all of the other bloggers who are doing this!
Carla, thanks for your answer!
What cute cats! I love the fact that the two cats are lying in almost the same pose in the first picture (I call that “parallel kitties”) and are mirror images of each other in the last one.
Thanks! Yes – funny how they often “parallel” or “mirror” each other!
Short reply… meow *_*
Wow – such cute kitties! Congrats on getting Freshly Pressed
We have four rescue cats who keep the household mood light (while doubling as the resident peacekeeping force!) and also tour with us.
P.S. love the tagline “One Wild and Precious Life”!
Thank you! How nice to have cats to take on tour!
They look so skinny compared to my two cats, both of whom weigh over 15 pounds each.
That is a very beautiful pattern on the classic tabby. They are very cute.
I think they’re a little skinnier in their old age. But healthy overall, all things considered. They do have pretty markings, don’t they?
One of our cats is tall and thin, his coat like a red leopard the way he slinks. He can be very violent if you can’t read his mood, and don’t know what he dislikes. Never stroke him down the back, but scratch his ears and head and chin, for all you are worth. Don’t you dare touch his tail, either.
Quite often he will slip up into my lap as I sit at the computer, settle down and sleep. With the Jack Russels he is very amiable, but he can be awkward with the three other cats, sometimes a red devil with them.
For all his quirks, we still love him dearly. He is just a true cat, and that it that !
I’ve had cats like that – these two are so loving you can stick your face right up to them anywhere – no biting or scratching. We lucked out!
I have a cat that looks very much like yours. She’s Tigger and 11 years old. I think there’s a pic of her in my blog.
Great photos on your blog! Beautiful! I made it through a bunch of pics to a beautiful green eyed cat. Is she yours?
Those are some very lucky kitties!
Yes – they have no idea. But we’re lucky too . . .
They look so precious!
Amazing photo – one of those moments that just cannot be planned – congratulations on a wonderful blog.
Thanks so much, sketchjay!
They are so cute! I like kittens but I don’t have one myself.
Congrats on FP
Thanks! Kittens are pretty great!
Your kitties look so comfy sacked out on the deck! I have a gorgeous, and very pesky, tabby and a lovely prim and proper tuxedo cat. I so enjoy checking out the blog of another cat lover. There seem to be a lot of those here on WordPress!
Nice post!
Love your Gravatar!
Cats are a lovely part of my life too, I came to this particular Freshly pressed just for the nice image on the deck. I’ll go around a bit and I’ll be back.
Congrats for FP!
Thanks! We really love that deck – spend a lot of time out there.
Hello
I also love cats, but ever asked you what your cat thinks of you and what is the difference from the behavior of dogs and cats.
In my dog thinks so: “I am here to serve my master”
and cat “This man is here to serve me”
Fledge cat at home in six years already and I think that they are independent and beautiful animals.
Congratulations ,nice post!
Thank you! Yes – we often tell that joke! They do get served here pretty well! But they repay it in purrs and cuddling – one on my lap right now!
Awwwwwnn!
The Cats Are SOOOoooO Cuteeee!
<3
Love the article too…
Thank you!!
Congrats on Freshly Pressed! The attraction of the piece is the honesty..now isn’t that worth all the kitty litter?
Chris
Thanks! Loved your post on dating, and the wedding . . . Fun!
Too adorable.
how cute :’)
those kittens (cats, or whatever you call’em) are extremely cute
They took some of my stress this day.
So glad. Cats are great stress-relief.
You’re cats are so precious, especially those big ears haha! Something tells me my next post may include my cat, also! Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!!
Haha, I love bth pics, beautifully taken. Just curious, what happened ti the other two cats?
Thank you! Both of the other cats died between 1999 and 2005 – they just got old. Both over 15 years of age, so pretty long lives. Still hard to say goodbye.
Beautiful eyes. sooo cute
Congratulations on being freshly pressed! I have seen now, how lovely these cats, and I loved the first photograph so much, yes, I love cats so muccccchhhhh! My Princess, a young couple found her while they were walking. She was so poor. Our vet called us that there was a lovely cat! (my older cat died because of cancer so I was so sad) so Princess came to my life suddenly. Anyway, you are so nice Carlaat, how lucky cats they are. Blessing and Happiness, with my love, nia
Thank you! I stopped by your blog and love all of your photos of Istanbul, the cats, the flowers, the city, the birds – beautiful!
So cute.. Happy birthday to the kittens then..
Thanks for sharing
How cuteeeeeeeeeeee……………
Thanks! They are cute – one is on my lap right now being cute.
I wonder if cats are created to be our friend at home. I like how they greet their master when he/she comes home.
Cute cats!
Aw, I just want to rub my hand on the Ginger one’s belly!
such green eyed sweeties
cute cats,i wanna kiss
Thanks! Loved your birthday blog post – looks like a very happy celebration!
Love your photos and blog…very nice. The ‘cats on the deck’ photo is a great representation of a sleepy, lazy Saturday afternoon.
Congrats on FP!
Thank you! Loved your site as well – absolutely gorgeous photos of your Paris trip. Great colors and composition – great site! Sorry I couldn’t comment!
Loved this and so did a lot of other Cat lovers
Thanks, Jackie!
Congrats on being Freshly pressed!
cheers
PiP
Thanks so much, Piglet!
Love cats – yes, yours are adorable! Maybe mine will sneak into a blog one day. No, that’s not right – He would more likely sniff out a blog and jump 3 feet when it looked back at him.
Saw a video recently of a kitten jumping away from a tennis ball – set to scary music — so silly!
uwaaaa,,,,so cute^^, I love cats too!!
what is their name? they are like my grandma’s cat,,Betto n Bruno,,they always solid each other..
The photos are particularly endearing because your cats are doing what they love best– soaking up the rays on your charming front porch.
Thank you! Yes – this is their forte for sure!
Cats have a way of taking over: we moved in to our present home last March with our own spotted Lucy puss & by June two other stripies had adopted us. Now all three compete with us on the bed -winter’s coming with the electric blanket on there’s going to be some competition on!
They are great to have nearby in winter – little hot water bottles with fur!
Too cute.
Thanks! Love your photo share site!
So cute! Arent their ears huge!
They really did have big ears as kittens. Maybe because they were kind of skinny when we got them – made their ears and feet look bigger. Good luck on your art project – looks cool!
They are beautiful! I love the picture of them snoozing on the deck. Perfect cat relaxation.
As I am typing this I am also battling my two cats from stealing my bowl of yogurt… wouldn’t want to be without them though (even if they two thieves…).
Mine were not curious about people food for the first ten years, and now they are much more into seeing what we’re eating. Don’t know why!

So cute! I love the cat conversation translations! Have you seen the “patty-cake” one?
I myself, am also onr of the many cat lovers in the world! This blog really just explains why a cat can be so darn lovable!
Aww- thanks so much!
Cute cats. Just to warn you, the may turn; reach the age of 20 or more. But since you love them, that is no problem, I´m sure. Have a nice cat-day. I love my cats too, usually.
Yes -they do look similar in the pic, but I think it’s a trick of the camera. Will stop by and check out your kittens!
My teacher used to say, how and what you think of cats, is always the way you think of your loved ones. Often true, in most cases. And, the catch of this post was this line : “It’s just too pretty to be blogging. And I don’t want to have to be on the computer on a Saturday night, either! ” , and you finally end up giving a romantic reason for that too. Cool.
hi, i am new to blogging. i liked watching the pics of your cats. I myself had 5 cats!! at a time along with a cute dogie. i love watching kitties and dogies. very graceful.
Loving the kitty pics – absolutely adorable
