Ok, that’s not really fair. It is not another festival. It’s just the bottle brush (Callistemon) tree in our yard. I’ve been noticing all the little red bristly flower parts accumulating in the cracks in the brick sidewalk, and decided to take a photo today.
And then I got interested in the blooms that are just popping. They look kind of like little balls of yarn!
And the ones that are opening more.
And the gorgeous ones all the way open, making the reason for the name “bottle brush” completely clear.
This plant is native to Australia, but it’s very happy in our yard in New Orleans!

There are some flowers that are just so intriguing, so out of the norm of regular petals (like roses or daisy), that I sometimes find myself just staring at them, in wonder and awe. This is cool that you are able to capture all the different stages of bloom!
Thanks, Pia! We’ve had this tree for quite some time and I don’t think I had paid close attention to the buds opening ever before. It is pretty cool!
I love the flower “petals” in the brick sidewalk. So cool! It’s fun to see all the different plants you have compared to what grows in a short season in Maine. We get beautiful wildflowers in June as our reward, so that’s a big plus.
I loved Maine when I hiked through in September – it was so beautiful – the blue blue sky and green pine trees – I was lucky with gorgeous weather. I hope you have some pretty spring days coming your way!
Beautiful, absolutely fantastic color!
Thanks, Theresa!
The little balls of yarn are terrific! Great images lady.
Thanks so much! I hadn’t ever noticed how cool these flowers are as they begin to bloom. Just goes to show you that there’s plenty of new things to notice every day!
