Fantabulous Fridays- Start where you are

Here’s a great little resource when you need a little kick start in being compassionate.  Start Where You Are is a small yet powerful book by Pema Chodron.  My copy includes a set of cards that you can read daily with commentary on the back – they’re from ancient Buddhist teachings.  I photographed the stack with one on top that needs little explanation!

I’m a big fan of teachings from any tradition that help us be more mindful, loving and compassionate.  I’m drawn to Buddhist writings because they seem inclusive rather than exclusive and the teachings are simple yet so challenging at the same time.

I like reading one card in the morning – I need to start that up again soon! – and then trying to think about or apply it all day.  I also like the idea of starting where you are every day- part of being compassionate has to begin with compassion towards oneself.
