Home out of the weather

Yep, you're looking at penny-sized hail!

I’m happy to be home and cozy after a harried drive home through some deep water illuminated by plenty of lightning. I try to avoid driving in New Orleans during crazy downpours because our streets in some places temporarily flood and it’s an easy way to ruin your car.

Tonight wasn’t really that bad – I doubt that the water ever made it over the middle of the tires, but that’s deep enough for me and my little Corolla.  I just motored through some of the deeper parts and hoped that I wouldn’t stall.  This was all on Tchoupitoulas Street which one would think would be high ground!  I hate to imagine what it was like on some of the side streets.

I missed the hail, as I was inside a school building with thick brick walls and no windows in the classroom, but it sounded crazy loud.  When I got home my sweetie showed me one piece of hail he’d grabbed quickly out of the yard.  Penny sized hail!  Crazy!

Things seem to have calmed down now.  We’ve had some eggs and toast – good comfort food – and I’m pooped, so hitting the sack soon.   I definitely prefer to be inside and cozy when the weather’s rough.

We had some crazy huge hail last week, too! I thought it was going to punch holes in the roof!

I’m with you. When the weather gets nuts here, I like to hunker down inside.
